When the first Holdens were rolling off the Australian production lines, two family-owned companies kicked off in the Sydney area: Buttsworth and Macnaught. Both are still operating as successful family-owned companies today and Buttsworth is an important outlet for many Macnaught products.
Back in 1948 their paths looked quite separate. Buttsworth Earthmoving was founded by Pat Buttsworth to manufacture and export his world famous trailer-mounted earthmoving Buttsworth Scoop.
At that time Macnaught was manufacturing fledgling fluid handling products and the possibility of any Buttsworth-Macnaught connection looked unlikely.
However, the Australian light earthmoving scene changed from towed scoops to self-propelled units and Buttsworth, under the guidance of Pat’s son Jeff and grandson Paul, moved into steel fabrication and related supplies. Over the years the company made the transition into today’s Buttsworth Industrial Supplies.
In its 70th year the family-owned company employs 15 staff and sells a wide range of products from its South Windsor (NSW) premises. Prominent among the product list are the Macnaught and Lubemate brands.
Sales manager, Vic Turner, has been with Buttsworth for 30+ years and is a devotee of Macnaught products. Big sellers are the always reliable grease drum pumps and the durable Retracta hose reels.
“There are many rural customers of Buttworths in this area and most of them use the older Macnaught P2 or current P3 air-operated grease pumps,” said Vic. “We’ve been selling and servicing them for the past 30 years.
“They’re by far the most reliable pumps in the market and I can count on one hand the number of claims we’ve had on the Macnaught 10-year warranty.
“Like Buttsworths the Macnaught business is built on reliability and quality service, and that’s why both companies are celebrating 70 successful years in business,“ said Vic.
